Agnes Mae (Lichtenberger) Edwards

Eldorado, Illinois

Agnes Mae Edwards, 94, of Eldorado, Illinois formerly of rural Omaha, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 17, 2025 at the V.A. Hospital in Marion.  She was born in Enfield on October 8, 1930, the daughter of the late Otto and Ruth (Boyd) Lichtenberger.  Agnes went into the field of nursing and was a staff nurse for Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana until she entered into  military service as a Second Lieutenant on August 3, 1953.  She was stationed in Germany and was a general duty nurse and became a First Lieutenant before she was relieved from active duty on August 11, 1955.  On December 26th of that same year she married Carl Wayne Edwards. Carl preceded Agnes in death on July 31st of the year 2000. Agnes always said  “I love Jesus” and people were always blessed in knowing her. She was a faithful member of the College Heights Baptist Church in Eldorado. Agnes was one of the few female veterans in this area and was of lifetime member of the Eldorado VFW and member of the Eldorado American Legion.  She is survived by her loving family; her daughter, Jane (Dale) Miller of Eldorado and family, Jason (Sarah) Farmer, Emilie (Brandon) Burnett, Josh (Natalie) Farmer, Sydney Farmer, Jill (David) Mattingly, Reagan and Lincoln Mattingly, Jon Farmer, Hannah, Hayden, Jett, and Jarrah Farmer. Her eldest son, Dale Edwards of Eldorado and family, Eme (Bill) Basinger, Canon Weatherly, Lyra Basinger, Jeff Edwards, Alex Edwards, Ethan Edwards. Her youngest son, Harry Edwards of Marion and his son, Allan Edwards. Agnes is also survived by her three great great grandchildren, Callahan, Kentlee and Magdalene.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Ruby McClusky and Martha Faye Lictenberger; and a infant brother.  Visitation for Agnes will be held on Wednesday, January 22nd from 10 a.m.until funeral service at 1 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Ridgway.  Burial will follow the funeral service at Old Cottonwood Cemetery near Omaha.  Military Honors will be conducted by the Eldorado VFW and the Gallatin County Honors team.  Donations in Agnes’s memory may be made to the College Heights Baptist Church or to the Old Cottonwood Cemetery.
