Alene (Rider) Shea

Catherine Alene Shea, age 75, of Junction, Illinois passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday October 3rd 2024 surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Eldorado on April 27, 1949 one of three children born to the late Bennie and Bernice (Murphy) Rider.  On July 12th 1969 she married the love of her life John Shea at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shawneetown.  Alene spent almost all of her life in Junction with a handful of  years spent in Woodstock and Springfield, Illinois.  She was a member of St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway, Illinois.  Alene liked to work on crafts with her grandchildren and great grandchildren in addition to quilting, sewing, crocheting, playing the fiddle, and doll making.  She enjoyed spending time with her great grand kids.  Alene is survived by her loving husband, John Shea of Junction; her mother Bernice Rider of Shawneetown; one son Johnny Shea of Junction; three grandchildren, Morgyn Shea of Junction, Hanna Shea of Junction, and Joshua Shea of Oakhurst, California; five great grand children, Aliya Raney, Jason Raney, Aurora Yates, Layla Yates, and Kristopher Coonse; Brother in Law Benny Rash; one special niece Brenda Stuby; and her companion dog Bella.  Alene was preceded in death by her father Bennie Rider; son Ronald David Shea; sister Margaret (Rider)Rash; brother Lawrence “Boone” Rider.  Visitation for Alene will be held on Sunday, October 6th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown.  Prayer service will be at 4 p.m.  Funeral Mass will be on Monday, October 7th at 11 a.m. at the St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway.  Father Vincent Mukasa will be conducting the Mass with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery near Equality.
