Alfred "Al" Gunzel

Alfred “Al” Gunzel of Harrisburg, Ill., passed away at the Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind. on Monday, June 24, 2019, 5:19 a.m.  Al was born on August 13, 1938 in Shawneetown, the son of the late Fred Crist and Catherine (Seely) Gunzel.  He married the former Joyce Tucker on April 4, 1958 and Joyce preceded him in death on September 27, 2003.  He retired from the Defense Department as a quality assurance inspector.  Also Al was a member of the Harrisburg United Methodist Church.  He is survived by his son, Dr. David and Lorrie Gunzel of Harrisburg; one brother, Dan Gunzel of Portland, Ore.; three grandchildren, Lauren and Charlie Crimando of Rochester Hills, Mich., Ryan and Karen Gunzel of Durham, N.C., Jon Gunzel and Kim Doering of Herrin; six great grandchildren, Naomi, Stella, Sylvester, Ruby, Flora, and Josephine.  Al was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three sisters, Dotty Gunzel, Mary Eubanks, and Lulu Mae Pierson; and his brother, Fred Gunzel.  Visitation for Al will be held on Thursday, June 27th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown.  Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 28th at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ron George officiating.  Burial will be at the Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown.
