Anita Ann Crawford Abell, 77, of Winchester, Virginia formerly of Ridgway, Illinois, passed away on March 24, 2020 at The Willows of Meadow Branch, in Winchester, Virginia. Anita was born on January 19, 1943 in Ridgway, the daughter of the late Louis Perry and Mary Wood Crawford. She worked for over forty years as a registered nurse in southern Illinois and Charleston, South Carolina. Anita married Kenneth Abell on April 25, 1964, in Ridgway. Kenneth preceded Anita in death on October 26, 1993. She is survived by her son, Eric (Natalie) Abell of Woodbury, Minnesota; her daughter, Dana (Dave) Kelly of Winchester, Virginia; her grandchildren: Brandon (Brianna), Hannah, and Kaitlin Abell; James and AnnMarie Kelly; Hilary, Levi, Ethan, and Christopher Abell; and Austin, Dustin, and Jessica Miller; and her great-grandchildren: Aden Abell; Granger and Brooks Abell; and Blakely Miller. Anita was preceded in death by her husband Kenny, son Chris, and sister Marilyn Crawford Espiritu. There was a private graveside burial service, where she was interred alongside her husband Kenny, at St. Joseph’s Cemetery near Ridgway on Sunday, March 29th. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, June 27th for family and friends at Boulds Farm near Eldorado. Father Steven Beatty will officiate the service. Memorial contributions may be made in Anita’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association at act.alz.org/donate or to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Winchester, VA 22601. Due to Covid-19 social distancing and face masks are recommended. Vickery Funeral Chapel in Ridgway in charge of arrangements.
