Ann Lee Harmon

January 2, 1927 — July 2, 2010

Ann Lee Harmon (nee Mahoney), 83, of Shawneetown, Ill., passed away Friday, July 2, 2010, 9:20 p.m., after an extended illness, at Fountain View Nursing Home in Eldorado. She was born on January 2, 1927 in Eldorado, Ill. Mrs. Harmon was the former owner of Harmon's Ready to Wear, a retail family clothing business she started in 1963 and ran until the early 1990's. Her business was originally located on the second floor of Harmon's Grocery Store and later occupied the former First National Bank building located adjacent to the grocery store. Ann loved her family intensely and, like many mothers, was very proud of her boys. She loved tending her flowers and vegetable garden, traveling, entertaining guests, as well as being an avid bridge player over the years. She was an outstanding cook, who never disappointed the masses that showed up at her door for dinner on Sundays. Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 60 years, Ralph Harmon, her parents, Maurice and Eunice (Watson) Mahoney, a sister, Marilouise Mahoney Oakley, two brothers, Thomas and Maurice Henry Mahoney, and one son, William Ralph "Bill" Harmon. Surviving are four sons, George T. "Tom" (Jane) Harmon of Shawneetown, James F. (Angela) Harmon of Shawneetown, John P. Harmon (Connie Harvey) of Cave-in Rock, and Joseph R. (Nancy) Harmon of Belleville; nine grandchildren, Mark, Michael, Jaclyn, Laura, Cristina, Mary Kate, Sam and Ben Harmon and Nancy (Ryan) Mason; eight great-grandchildren, Andrew, Robbie, Jillian and Isabelle Harmon, Mallory and Taylor Mason, James Wood, and Jacob John LeRoy; one niece, Mary Ann Christensen; four nephews, Richard, Roger, Thomas and Patrick Mahoney; one aunt, Ruth Ellen Wallace; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Shawneetown, where she was a devout member. Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 5, 2010 and prior to the funeral on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Vickery Funeral Chapel in, Shawneetown. Funeral: Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Shawneetown, with the Rev.
