Bernard "Bernie" Fuhr, 81, of Ledford St., Harrisburg, Ill., passed away Monday afternoon, April 27, 2009, 3:30 p.m., at the VA Hospital in Marion. Born June 13, 1927, in Leamington, Ill. To Anthony and Laura (Black) Fuhr. Bernie served in the Navy during WWII as a Seabee and graduated from West Chicago High School after the war. Bernie was a construction worker, carpenter, coal miner, and local Harrisburg business owner. He was a member for life of both the American Legion and the VFW and took pride of his accomplishments as a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Ainad Shrine Temple. He will be remembered and is survived by Mary Jane his wife of fifty-eight years; son, Ed Allen and wife Nancy of Kona, HI; two grandchildren, Anne Allen of San Diego, CA and Alex and wife Leslie Allen of Paris, France and their two sons, Jack and Parker. Bernie is also survived by his sister, Mary Ruth York of Harrisburg and brother and sister-in-law, Harve and Juanita Fuhr of Shawneetown and was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Collins of Eldorado. Also surviving are an Aunt Lahoma Perry of Harrisburg; a niece Vicky and husband Mark Drone; a nephew, Ron and wife Kathy Fuhr and several cousins. A memorial visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. Funeral services for Bernie will be held at the funeral home, 11 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2009, with Pastor Jack Hall. Burial will be at Leamington Cemetery.
