Bobby Wayne Hopper, 72, of Equality, passed away surrounded by his family and friends on Saturday, July 31, 2010, 5:35 p.m. at the Harrisburg Medical Center in Harrisburg. Bobby was born December 3, 1937 in Uniontown, Ky. to Claud and Adah (Williams) Hopper. He married Catherine Ann Porter on February 6, 1971. He was a retired survey engineer for the U.S. Forest Service in Harrisburg and served on the Board of the Village of Equality and as mayor for over thirty years. He was a member of Equality Masonic Lodge #2 and a charter member of the Sons of the Equality American Legion Post #595. Bobby is survived by his wife, Cathy Hopper of Equality; two sons, Gregory Hopper of Tampa, Fla., and Ashley Hopper of Eldorado; two sisters, Freda and Glen Rakestraw of Morganfield, Ky., Barbara and Bill Bean of Equality; one brother, Claud and Barb Hopper Jr. of Wheatcroft, Ky.; and one grand daughter, Chelsey Hopper of Carrier Mills. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mildred "Midge" Hopper, Dorothy Ratliff; three brothers, James, William "PeeWee", and Charles Hopper. A memorial service for Bobby will be held at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 with visitation from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. with Rev. Marshall Glover officiating. There will be Masonic Rites by the Equality Masonic Lodge #2 at 12:45 p.m. As per his wishes he will be cremated and interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Equality Social Brethren Church. Internet condolences may be made at the website, www.vickerfuneralchapel.com.
