Catherine Peeples "Kay" Atwood, 67, of Shawneetown, passed away Monday, February 7, 2011, 6:55 a.m., at the Finnie Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Galatia. Kay was born March 25, 1943 in Shawneetown, the daughter of the late Frederick Lawrence Logsdon and Catherine Rhoades (Peeples) Logsdon who survives. She was a graduate of the Shawneetown High School, the class of 1962. She played the saxophone in the school band and had won many music awards. After high school she attended SIC. She was secretary for the Superintendent of Highways and also worked at the Logsdon Hardware Store. She was a life long member of the Shawneetown Presbyterian Church. Kay is survived by her ninety-eight year old mother, Catherine Logsdon of Shawneetown; three daughters, Stephanie Rider of Shawneetown, Amanda and Ryan Ward also of Shawneetown, and Jennifer Atwood of Anchorage, Ak.; three sisters, Libby and Charlie Oldham of Shawneetown, Freddie and Alex Garnett of Harrisburg, Peggy and Ken Luckhurst of Evansville, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Whitney Belford of Eldorado, Matt Rider of Ridgway, Alyssa and Candace Lindsay, both of Shawneetown, Sophia, Cash, and Isabella Ward, also of Shawneetown; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation for Kay will be held on Friday, February 11, 2011 from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. Rev. Ron Johnson will be officiating with burial at the Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown. Donations may be made to the Down Syndrome Assn. of Greater St. Louis or the St. Louis Children's Hospital.
