Chester Riley, 89, of Shawneetown, Ill., passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at the Eldorado Rehab and Healthcare in Eldorado. He was born on December 25, 1929 in Cave In Rock, the son of the late Arthur and Ida (Hooven) Riley. Chester married Zelma Vivian McIntire on August 24, 1950. Vivian preceded Chester in death on June 19, 2008. He was a faithful member of Equality United Methodist Church and volunteered at the Equality Food Bank. In 1961 he joined the Shawneetown Fire Department and was Assistant Fire Chief from 1987 to present. He leaves behind his five children, June and Dean Stout of Uniontown, Ky., Jerry and Patty Riley of Shawneetown, Brenda and Larry Wood of Shawneetown, Terry and Vickie Riley of Carbondale, and Larry Riley of Henderson, Ky.; one sister, Marcella and Don Elder; two brothers, Herschel Hooven, Billy Don and Shirley Riley; special niece, Kay and John Johnson of Shawneetown; ten grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; thirteen great great grandchildren. Chester was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one sister, Wanda Cullum; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Visitation for Chester will be held on Tuesday, October 29th from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. Funeral service will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 30th at 11 a.m. Bro. John Johnson and Rev. Ron Johnson will officiating the service with burial at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Cave In Rock. Donations in Chester’s memory may be made to Mt. Zion Cemetery or the Equality Food Bank.
