Delores Ann (Rider) Scherrer

Delores Ann Rider Scherrer, 74, of Shawneetown, Ill., passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, February 5, 2019.  She was born on October 24, 1944 in Ponds Settlement, oldest of nine children of the late Daniel Vincent and Catherine Louise (Abell) Rider.  Delores married Raymond Louis Scherrer on December 26, 1966 and Ray preceded her in death on February 20, 2017.  She was a registered nurse at Harrisburg Medical Center for twenty-three years.  Also she was a faithful member of the St. Kateri Catholic Church.  Delores is survived by her loving family, one daughter, Angela and Bill Watson of Shawneetown; two sons, Daniel and Karen Scherrer of Glendale, Cal., Joseph and Karen Scherrer of O’Fallon, Ill.; five grandchildren, Jacob and Anna Watson of Shawneetown, Nathan and Luke Scherrer of Glendale, Cal., and Julia Scherrer of O’Fallon, Ill.; three sisters, Agnes and Jerry Patton of Shawneetown, Jane and Jeff Whiting of Galatia, Sue and Greg Huson of Front Royal, Va.; three brothers, Tony Rider of Junction, Charles and Cindy Rider of Florrisant, Mo., Thomas and Barbara Rider of Lehigh Acres, Fla.  Also she was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Rita Brown; and one infant brother, James Rider.  Visitation for Delores will be held on Saturday, February 9th from 9 a.m. until Mass service time at 11 a.m. at the St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway.  Father Steven Beatty will officiate with burial at Ponds Settlement near Ridgway. Donations in Delores’s memory may be made to the St. Kateri Building Fund.  Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown in charge of arrangements.
