Don E. Rister

Don E. Rister, 89, of Norris City, passed away at his home on Friday, May 20, 2011, 11:18 p.m. He was born on March 1, 1922 in Omaha, Ill. to Alvy and Laura (Sanders) Rister. Don married Beth Newkirk on October 14, 2005. He served our country in the Army during World War Two. Mr. Rister was a member of the Omaha General Baptist Church, Carmi VFW and the American Legion in Ridgway. Don is survived by his wife, Beth Rister of Norris City; one son, Donnie Rister of Omaha; two step daughters, Kim and Eric Myers of Norris City, Sandra and Ronald Griffith of Mohomit; a granddaughter, Stephanie and Todd Lee; five step grandchildren, Melissa and Joel Floyd, Amber and Brent Floyd, Heather and Michael Rister, Dawn and Joe Cerny, Bryan and Katie Griffith; sixteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gary Rister; grandson, Garrett Rister; sister, Inis Awalt. Visitation for Don will be held on Monday, May 23, 2011 from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Omaha. Rev. Tara Sisco and Rev. Justin Griffin will be conducting the service. Burial will be held at the Palestine Two Cemetery near Omaha with military rites by Ridgway American Legion Post #596.
