Donald N. Thompson, 68, of 16391 Old Creal Springs Road, Marion, Ill., formerly of Equality, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at 12:10 a.m. in Marion. He was born on February 11, 1941 in Equality, the son of Lyle Edward and Mattie Sue (Dailey) Thompson Sr. Don married Judith A. Carnahan on August 14, 1960. He retired in 1991 from the Illinois State Police District #4 and was also a carpenter by trade. Don and his wife Judy moved from Lansing, Ill. to Marion, Ill. in 1994. He was a member of the Equality Presbyterian Church and was a 32nd degree Mason member of the Equality Masonic Lodge #2. Don is survived by his loving wife, Judy Thompson of Marion; two daughters, Donna M. and Bob Jones of Lansing, Ill., Jennifer A. and Bob Klein of Bartlett, Ill.; three brothers, Monte C. and Mary Thompson of Ridgway, Harold D. and Marlene Thompson of Fountain, Colo., Ted E. and Margit Thompson of Elk Grove Village, Ill.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Jones, Benjamin Donald Jones, Mattie Michelle Klein, Makayla Marie Klein; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, LaVernne Murphy, Evelyn Adams; two brothers, Lyle E. and Ronald L. Thompson. Visitation for Don will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality with Masonic service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be the following day Sunday, February 14, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Equality Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jerry Williams officiating. Burial will be at the Cottage Grove Cemetery near Equality. In lieu of flowers donations in Don's memory may be made to the St. Judes Childrens Hospital, Shriners Hospital or Caringbridge.org website.
