Donnie Ray Lane

Donnie Lane, 85, of Karbers Ridge, Illinois passed away after an extended illness on Thursday evening on May 18th, 2023.  Donnie Ray Lane was born February 17th, 1940, the fifth child of Lawrence and Edith (Burklow) Lane. Don lived his entire life in Hardin County. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service, Hardin County Highway Department, Bonds Lumber Company, and on the family farm. He married Ruby Carter, and to this union there was one son born, Danny Ray. Don loved to hunt, trap, and fish. He loved his dogs and cats, but most of all he loved his mom.  Although he wasn't the youngest, he got babied by all of us, until the day he left us. Don leaves behind his son, Danny; his brother, Jim Lane of Harrisburg; three sisters, Opal and David Fields of Junction, Kay and Joel Beal of Harrisburg, Jackie “Susie” and Steve Moore of Rosiclare. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill and J.C. Lane; four sisters. Wilma “Pud” McBride, Wanda McNear, Mary “Sally” Barnes, and Anna Mae “Shorty” Carter. Don accepted the Lord and Savior in February, 2023. He had a special nickname for a few of us, it was “Herman”. He passed at Hardin County General Hospital surrounded by his sister Susie, brother-in-law, Steve, and niece, Stacy. There will be a visitation for Donnie on Monday, May 22nd  from 10 a.m. until funeral service time at 11 a.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown.  The Reverend Harold Miller will officiate with burial at the Lane-Winters Cemetery in Hardin County.
