Earl Ajax “Jack” Fillingim, 93, of Ridgway, Illinois, passed away at the SIH Memorial Hospital in Carbondale on Tuesday, December 10, 2019at 2:31 a.m. He was born on June 14, 1926 in Ridgway, the son of the late Harlis and Ella (King) Fillingim. Jack married the former Nilah Kathleen Cook on December 21, 1968. Nilah preceded him in death on September 25, 2014. He and his brother owned and operated the Fillingim Garage in Ridgway and also was a farmer for many years. Jack was a proud Army veteran of the Korean War. Also he was a member of the Ridgway First Presbyterian Church and Ridgway American Legion Post #596. Jack is survived by his loving family, his daughter Beth and Lance Forsberg of Carbondale; two grandchildren, Allison Forsberg and Ethan Forsberg, both of Carbondale. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Lee Fillingim; one sister, Virginia Fillingim. Visitation for Jack will be held on Friday, December 13th from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Ridgway. Funeral service will be on Saturday, December 14th at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Jackson Cemetery near Ridgway with Military Honors by Marion Honor Guard. Donations in Jack’s memory may be made to the American Macular Degeneration, Macular.Org .
