Edgar Joyner, 87, of Elberfeld, Indiana longtime resident of Equality, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, November 28th, 2024 at the Eldorado Rehab and Healthcare. He was born at Round Pond, Illinois on March 27th, 1937, the son of the late George and Carrie Elizabeth (Hughey) Joyner. Edgar was a retired coal miner. A Christian by faith he was a faithful member of the Equality Presbyterian Church. He married the former Mary Lou Vinyard on June 14th, 1958, sadly Mary Lou preceded Edgar in death on October 3rd, 2013. Edgar is survived by his loving family, his daughter, Rhonda and Tim Oldham of Equality; his son, Charlie and Theresa Joyner of Elberfeld, Indiana; his brother, Gary and Jill Joyner of Geneseo; and his sister, Sue Joyner of Dixon; four grandchildren, Benjamin and Tiffany Joyner of Rantoul, Jonathan and Stephanie Joyner of Rosiclare, Kyle and Stephanie Oldham of Lake of Egypt, Montana and Leah Susott of Elberfeld, Indiana; eight great grandchildren, McKenzie, Gabriel, Parker, Samuel, River, Jimmy, Easton, and Annabelle. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Maxine (Hines) Ethridge; his wife; and one sister, Iva Jean Vinyard. Visitation for Edgar will be held on Monday, December 2nd from 10 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. at the Equality Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Jonathan Joyner officiating. Burial will follow the service at Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown. Donations in Edgar’s memory may be made to the Equality Presbyterian Church. Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality in charge of the arrangements.
