Edna Laverne Osborne, 89, of Shawneetown, Illinois passed away at the Carrier Mills Nursing and Rehab Center on Friday, July 29, 2022 at 6:04 a.m. She was born on July 16, 1933 in Shawneetown to the late Clarence E. and Edna Marie (Hardin) Chamberlain. Laverne married to the late Johnnie Osborne on April 6, 1954 in Gallatin County. They were married for thirty-seven years until his death in October of 1991. She is survived by two daughters, Verna Kay Cronin of Carrier Mills, Sharon and Charles Merritt of Shawneetown; three grandchildren, Stanya Cox, Kelly Lynch and Donnie Merritt; four great grandchildren, Danielle Hish, Caitlyn Nichole Lynch, Zane Michael Merritt, and Jacob Curtis Merritt; one great great grandson, Koltyn Ryan Merritt. Laverne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Kathleen Mullins and her daughter, Roxanna Lee Lindsay. Laverne was baptized at the age of twelve as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1945 in the Ohio River and remained one until her death. Her hobbies were reading the Bible, talking to people about the Bible. In her youth she loved to play baseball with some of the teams. Laverne loved to sing, whistle, and dance. A Memorial service for Laverne will be on Saturday, August 27th at 1:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1000 West Poplar Street, Harrisburg. Speaker Clem Clemans will officiate the service. Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown will be in charge of arrangements.
