Eugene "Gene" Tarrant, 89, of Omaha, Ill., passed away at his daughter's home in McLeansboro, Ill. on Monday, June 28, 2010,8:20 a.m. He was a retired farmer and a well known resident of the Omaha community and will be dearly missed by his friends and family. Gene was born in Omaha on May 4, 1921 to Edward and Anna (Utley) Tarrant. He proudly served his country in the Army during World War II. On July 2, 1942 he married Virginia Patton who preceded him in death on February 12, 2007. He attended the Omaha General Baptist Church and was a member the Masonic May Lodge #718 of Norris City. Gene is survived by his daughter, Joann Everett of McLeansboro; son, James Eugene Tarrant of Omaha; two brothers, Ralph Tarrant of Omaha, Elvis and Betty Tarrant of Godfrey, Ill.; four grandchildren, Kristi and Steve Rodenbeck of Zeeland, Mich., Tim Everett of Springfield, Stephanie and Shawn Batty of Vincennes, Ind., Bethany Everett of St. Louis, Mo.; four great grandchildren, Alex Rodenbeck, Tyler Batty, Noah Batty, Haleigh Batty. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two sisters, Mamie and Mildred; six brothers, Eslie, Milton, David, Webb, Clyde, and Paul. Visitation for Gene will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2010 from 10 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Omaha. Masonic service will be conducted by th May Lodge #718 at 12:45 p.m. Rev. Fred Leeds and Rev. Blaine Felty will be conducting the funeral service. Burial will be at the Bethlehem Cemetery near Omaha with military rites by Ridgway American Legion Post #596. Memorials in Gene's memory may be made to the VNA Hospice of Eldorado.
