Finch Stubbs Jr., 87, of Harrisburg, Illinois formerly of Shawneetown, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado. He was born in Shawneetown on November 26, 1933, the son of the late Finch Sr. and Minnie E. (Milligan) Stubbs. Finch married the former Vickie Diane Little on May 7, 1970. Sadly she preceded him in death on November 6, 2006. He proudly served as a staff sergeant in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1957. Finch retired from the State of Illinois, Department of Public Aid. Also he was a life member of the NRA, Harrisburg Hunters Club, and Shawneetown American Legion Post 585. Finch was an avid Cardinal baseball fan and enjoyed playing baseball and basketball as well as coaching young people in those sports. An avid outdoors man he loved to hunt and fish in the local area and in the Rocky Mountains for big game. He was an expert shooter and reloader. Finch is survived by his family, one son, Artie Stubbs of Harrisburg: two daughters, Shelley Stubbs of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Dana L. Stubbs of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; one brother-in-law, Jim Deitz of Carmi; one granddaughter, Nicole and Austin Stallings of Harrisburg; two great grandchildren, Noah and Madelyn; two nephews, Tony and Troy Deitz. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his sister, Nannie Deitz. There will be a graveside service for Finch on Saturday, December 26th at 11 a.m. at the Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown. Reverend Ron Johnson will officiate the service. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery and due to Covid-19 masks and social distancing will be required. Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown will be in charge of arrangements.
