Marvin Eugene “Gene” Porter, 77, of Eldorado, Illinois formerly of Shawneetown passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born into a large family on September 13, 1944 in Eagle Creek, the son of the late Charles Allen and Mary C. (Haney) Porter. Gene married the former Mary Etta Street on May 28, 1968. He was a retired Gallatin County farmer. Also Gene was a member of First Baptist Church in Shawneetown and served as church deacon. Gene is survived by his loving wife, Mary Etta Porter of Eldorado; his son, Joey and Sharon Porter of Shawneetown; three sisters, Linda Reed of Creal Springs, Bonnie and Bernard Thomas of Morganfield, Kentucky, Winifred Joyce Lewis of Chillicothe; eleven grandchildren, Daniel and Jen Schou, Stormie and Jeff Clifford, Jacob Schou, Laurie and Kyle Wollard, Haylee Zumwalt, Diana and Bobbi Cheek, Joseph “Bub” Porter, Mariah Porter, Joseph Porter, Brayden Porter, Hadley Porter and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters, Mildred Black, Evadeen Haney, Catherine Hopper, Ruby Oxford, and Mary Connie Brazier; three brothers, Noel Allen Porter, Charles Edgar Porter, Joseph David Porter. Visitation for Gene will be held on Monday, November 22nd from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. Funeral will be the following day at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 23rd from 11 a.m. with Reverend Darrell Ford officiating. Burial will follow at the Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown.
