Harold Ray "Smitty" Smith

April 21, 1945 — December 23, 2019

Harold Ray “Smitty” Smith, 74, of Old Shawneetown, Illinois, passed away at his home on Monday, December 23, 2019, 3:30 a.m. He was born in Shawneetown, the son of the late Walter Bryan and Veronica Amelia (Deitz) Smith.  Harold retired from Bunge Grain Elevator in Old Shawneetown and Ridgway.  He was also a member of the St. Kateri Catholic Church and an Army Vietnam veteran.  Harold belonged to the Shawneetown Fire Department and worked at the Shawneetown Water Department for several years.  He is survived by his son, Jon and Lisa Smith of Shawneetown; his companion, Charlesanna “Peddie” Crane of Old Shawneetown; son, Jeff and Mona Crane of Old Shawneetown; daughter, Cindy and Keith Decker of Shawneetown; two sisters, Virginia Quinn of Sturgis, Kentucky and Mary Willett of Smithton; brother, George and Thelma Smith of Sun City West, Arizona; six grandchildren, Makalyn, Mallory, Matthew, Cody, Macy, Mady, Addy, and Collyn; four great grandchildren, Reece, Graysen, Spencer, and Charli; several nieces and nephews.  Harold was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Walter, Andrew, and William Smith; sister, Delorse Drone; son, Charles Eugene Crane and grandson, Reed Crane.  Visitation for Harold will be on Thursday, December 26th from 10 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown with Father Steven Beatty officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery near Ridgway.  Ridgway and Shawneetown American Legion will be conducting the military honors.
