Herbert "Blackie" Mossman, 82, of 148 S. Van Buren St., Equality, passed away, Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. at Harrisburg Medical Center in Harrisburg. Blackie was born in Equality on April 14, 1925 to Frederick and Mabel (Barnett) Mossman. On June 27, 1950 he married Margaret McCabe who survives. Herbert was a WWII army veteran from the 83rd Infantry Division and served in the European theater earning a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star in the service of his grateful country. He also was a retired postmaster at Equality Post Office, a honory life member of the Ridgway Knights of Columbus #1581 and a member of McLain-Glover American Legion Post #595. Blackie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Equality. He is survived by wife, Margaret; two daughters, Joan and Bob Fromm of Junction, Patricia McGuire of Equality; two sons, David and Angela Mossman of Peoria, Christopher Mossman of Equality; six grandchildren, Kristin and Lyle Waller of Morganfield, Ky., Ryan and Lauren Fromm of Ridgway, Tina Fromm of Junction, Jae Michael Mossman of Peoria, April and William Fulton of Equality, Andrew Montgomery of Equality and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents; five brothers, Fred, Carl, Cletus "Pete", James and twin brother Hubert "Red" Mossman. Visitation for Blackie will be Saturday, February 9th from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality. Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Equality with Father Mark Stec officiating. Burial will follow the service at St. Joseph Cemetery near Equality, with military rites by the McLain-Glover American Post #595.
