James Deitz

December 18, 1936 — August 28, 2021

James Deitz, 84, of Carmi, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at the Fairfield Memorial Hospital in Fairfield.  He was born on December 18, 1936 in Shawneetown, the son of the late Pete and Alleen (Logsdon)Deitz.  Jim married Nannie L. Stubbs on March 14, 1959.  Sadly, Nannie passed away on August 30th of 2015.  Jim retired from Martin and Bayley Company as a sales representative.  He was also a member of the First Christian Church in Carmi. Jim was a proud Navy veteran.   Jim is survived by two sons, Troy and Lisa Deitz of Carmi, and Tony Deitz also of Carmi.  Also, he is survived by his brother, Dean and Cindy Deitz of Carmi; three grandchildren, Tarah Deitz and fiancé, Zach Hughes of Newburgh, Indiana, Tyler Deitz of Chicago, Renae and Mark Stine of Westville; three great grandchildren, Kaiston Stine, Bennett Stine and Peyton Hughes; along with several nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in by his parents; his wife, Nannie; his sister and brother in law, Norma Jean and Gib Frier; his brother in law, Finch Stubbs and his nephew, J.D. Deitz.  There will be a graveside service for Jim on Wednesday, September 1st at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Ron Johnson officiating.  Burial will be at the Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown with military rites by Gallatin County Honor Guard.  In lieu of flowers donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the First Christian Church in Carmi.  Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown is in charge of arrangements.
