James F. Greer

James F. Greer, 77, of Murphysboro, Illinois, went into the arms of the Lord and his beloved wife, Guenda on Monday, January 6th, 2025 at SIH Memory Hospital of Carbondale.  Born on August 16th of 1947 in Eldorado, he was the son of the late Alton Andrew and Orpha J. (Lynch) Greer.  Jim married the love of his life, the former Guenda Barnett on November 27th of 1968.  Sadly Guenda preceded Jim in death on December 31st of 2023.  He was a retired journeyman press worker.  Also he proudly served the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict.  He is survived by his loving family, his two sons, Andy and Heather Greer of Makanda, Daniel and Christy Greer of Carterville; his sister, Charlotte Mae Edmondson of Texas; six grandchildren, Ashley (Callie Buchanan) Hickam, Skylar Greer, Elijah and Jaylynn Greer, Jared Greer, Christian Greer, and Josiah Greer; three great grandchildren, Spencer, Jayelle, and Avalon.  Also survived by honorary family members that he loved.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, William Daniel Greer; two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Ridgway and Mary Jane Mossman.  Visitation for Jim will be held on Saturday, January 11th from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. at the Christian Covenant Fellowship in Carterville.  Pastors Andy and Daniel Greer will officiate their father’s funeral.  There will be a private family burial to follow the service at Leamington Cemetery near Junction.  Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Southern Illinois Christian Conference (SICC) Youth Camp.  Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality will be charge of arrangements.
