James "Jim" W. Schmitt

James W. "Jim" Schmitt, 71, 219 S. Drone Drive, Ridgway, Illinois passed away at his residence on Friday, October 13, 2006 at 10: 18 p.m. He was born to Leonard and Elizabeth(Spahr) Schmitt in Woodriver, Illinois on February 18, 1935. Jim married Dolores Drone on September 29, 1959. He was a retired coal miner at Saraha Coal Company. He served his country in the Navy and was a member of the Ridgway American Legion Post #596. Jim was catholic by faith and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ridgway and also a life member of Ridgway Knights of Columbus. He is survived by wife Dolores Schmitt; one son, Terry and Nancy Schmitt of Ridgway; two granddaughters, Elizabeth and MacKenzie Schmitt; two sisters, Mary Nell McGuire of Ridgway, Beth and Robert Holt of Georgetown, South Carolina, and one brother, John and Pat Schmitt of Eldorado, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2006 from 4 to 8 p.m. with Prayer service at 7 p.m. at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Ridgway. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Church in Ridgway at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 16, 2006, with Father Mark Stec officiating. Burial will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery near Ridgway, and Military rites by Ridgway American Legion Post #596. Memorials may be made to the Ridgway St. Joseph Building Fund or the V.A.
