John Thomas Ellis

John Thomas Ellis, 94, lifetime resident of Shawneetown, Illinois, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2020 at 8:41 a.m.  Born on June 15, 1925 in Shawneetown, the son of the late Walter and Emma (Leavell) Ellis.  John married Gracie Mae Morten on October 25,1947.  Gracie preceded John in death on the 12th of September, 2012.  John worked as parts manager for the Rich Motor Company for thirty-three years and served as Gallatin County Treasurer for sixteen years .  He was a member of the Equality Christian Center.  John is survived by his daughters, Joyce and Larry Davies of Eldorado, Rhonda and Sam Dillard of Harrisburg; his brother, Paul David and Amy Ellis of Shawneetown; three grandchildren, Kevin and Lisa Pettijohn of Norris City, Kristi and Dean Southerd of Norris City, and Carrie Dillard and John Michael of Paducah; one great grandchild, Hannah Pettijohn.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one sister, Marie Sisk; three brothers, Robert, Lawrence, and Ernest Ellis.  Visitation for John will be held on Thursday, March 12th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown.  Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 13th at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Allen Porter officiating.  Burial will follow at Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown.  Donations in John’s memory may be made to the Equality Fire Department Rope Rescue.
