John Lawrence Naas, 91, of 201 S. Herrmann Drive, Ridgway, Illinois, passed away at 11:05 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2006 at his residence. He was born in Equality, Illinois on July 10, 1915 to John G. and Anna T. (DeVous) Naas. Lawrence married Agnes Mary Wargel on September 4, 1940 in Eldorado, Illinois. She preceded him in death on March 24, 2001. John Lawrence was retired as a carpenter with union #62. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ridgway, Illinois; Knights of Columbus, Third degree member; and American Legion Post #596. He was a World War II Army 5th Infantry Division and 7th Engineer Battalion, awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart. He is survived by four sisters: Mary Agnes and John V. Wargel of Rockport, Indiana; Delores and Robert Wargel of Evansville, Indiana; Madonna Wesseten of Lockport, Indiana; Alice and Richard Maloney of Ridgway, Illinois; four brothers: Victor and Delores Naas of Flora, Illinois; Greg and Mary Beth Naas of Ridgway, Illinois; Burt and Sue Naas of Shiloh, Illinois; Charlie and Pat Naas of Ridgway, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, wife and two brothers; Cedric and Jim Naas. Graveside services will be Monday, September 11, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Joseph Cemetery near Equality, Illinois. Father Mark Stec officiating. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery. Military rites by Ridgway American Legion Post #596. Vickery Funeral Chapel - Ridgway is in charge of arrangements.
