John R. Smith

John R. Smith, 80, of Equality, Illinois, passed away late Sunday evening on  October 24, 2021, at the Rosiclare Rehab and Healthcare Center in Rosiclare.  John was born in Rosiclare on the 26th of July 1941, the son of the late Elmer and Ollie (Crabb) Smith.  He married the former LuVean Boswell on July 27, 1960.  John was a U.S. Army Veteran and a retired Fluorspar miner.  Also he was a member of the Carrs Missionary Baptist Church in Morganfield, Kentucky.  He is survived by his wife, LuVean Smith of Equality; three daughters, Carla and Bill McLain of Shawneetown, Terisa and Duke Williams of Equality, Mari and Randy Rankin of West Frankfort; one sister, Rose Page of Shawneetown; one brother, Ollen and Ann Smith Sr. of Omaha; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.  John was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Dennis Smith and his four granddaughters, Renee Fisher, Jari Barker, Linda LuVean Smith and Angela J. Williams; two grandsons, Bobby Gene Winters and Little Dee Smith; several brothers and sisters.  Visitation for John will be held on Saturday, November 20th from 11 a.m. until memorial service time at 1 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality.  Pastor Duke Williams will officiate the service.  Interment will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery near Equality.
