Kathleen (Nalley) Burtis

Mary Kathleen Burtis, age 88 of Equality, passed away at 3:54 AM, Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Harrisburg Medical Center, surrounded by her family.

Kathleen was born on February 26, 1935 in McLeansboro, to Harry and Edith (Gwaltney) Nalley. On July 3, 1953, she married Edward Burtis and he preceded her in death on October 25, 2022. Kathleen had worked for Mr. Lutz as a secretary at the Gallatin County Farm Bureau in Ridgway and she also was a teacher for Equality Christian School.  She was a member of the Church of New Beginnings where she still taught Sunday School at the time of her death. Kathleen was a steadfast and God fearing lady, that cared for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, they were her whole life.

Kathleen is survived by two children, son, Terry E. Burtis and wife “Sudie” of Equality; son, Jack Burtis of Indianapolis, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Cathy Burtis of Equality; seven grandchildren, Erik Burtis and wife Missy of Harrisburg; Jeremy Burtis and wife Tina of Harrisburg; Israel Burtis of Equality; Terisha Wilson and husband Matthew of Harrisburg; Joe Burtis and wife Kelly of Harrisburg; Edward Burtis and wife Leah of Harrisburg; Sara Lands and husband Nick of Eldorado; twenty great grandchildren, Josh Burtis, Braden Burtis, Alexa Burtis, Carson Burtis and wife Riley, Claire Burtis, Issac Burtis, Ezra Burtis, Oliver Burtis, Burke Wilson, Brooks Wilson, Mallie-Kate Wilson, Amelia Wilson, Seth Burtis, Samuel Burtis, Martin Burtis, Tucker Burtis, Vincent Burtis, Weston Griffin, Nora Lands and Harrison Lands; great-great grandchildren, Johvii Burtis and Callahan Burtis; brother, James Nalley and wife Kim of Prescott, Arizona; sister, Linda Pool and husband Albert of Salem, Arkansas; sister, Ann Simpson and husband Vic of Rogers, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Sue Nalley of West Branch, Michigan and several nieces and nephews.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Burtis; son, Joseph Burtis; father, Harry Nalley; mother, Edith Hickman; brother, Marion Nalley; brother, Clarence Nalley; and brother, Robert Nalley.

Funeral services for Mary Kathleen Burtis will be held at 1 PM, Monday, September 25, 2023 at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality, Illinois.  Rev. Kenny Blumenstock will officiate and burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery near Equality.  Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM, Monday, September 25, 2023 at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of New Beginnings and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.  Condolences may be left on her obituary page at www.vickeryfuneralchapel.com.
