Kenith Ray Vickery, 93, of Junction, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at the Gateway Deaconess Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana. He was born in Cave-in-Rock, one of six children born to James Raymond and Glena Marie (Richeson) Vickery. Kenny married the former Laura Rose Yackle on December 14, 1946 and built their life together with God, love and labor for seventy-four years. He retired as a dragline operator but with his wife, Rosie and their sons supplied family and friends with fresh vegetables and fruit every summer. Kenny always loved to keep busy with running a sawmill to help build his sons’ homes, designed and produced artisan bowls, rolling pins, and vases and raised every farm animal you could think of. Also, he enjoyed having visits from everyone that happened to drop by especially when sharing meals around the kitchen table. Lastly and most important he loved the Lord most of all. Kenny leaves behind his loving wife, Rose Vickery of Junction; three sons, Terry Gale and Dyan Vickery, Randy Lee and Sue Vickery, Gary Paul and Vickie Vickery, all of Junction; three sisters, Erma Mae Norris of Morganfield, Kentucky, Lorene Lane of Harrisburg, June Porter of Equality; one brother, Jimmy Vickery of Eldorado; twelve grand children, Tara and Tom Gorden of McLeansboro, Kimi and Tim Schroeder of Las Vegas, Nevada, Adam and Anni Vickery of Byron, Ben and Amanda Austin of Harrisburg, Josh and Denise Austin of Eldorado, Allie and Jordan Gilbert of Fort Myers, Florida; Travis and Amanda Vickery of Marion, Katie and Wes Hettenbach of Evansville, Indiana, Heath Vickery, Tyler and Dezmyn Vickery, Grant Vickery, Victoria and Wes Duvall, all of Shawneetown; twenty-seven great grandchildren including Taylor and Kasey Vickery of Raleigh; and dear niece, Paula Hise. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ed Paul Vickery. Visitation for Kenny will be held on Thursday, March 4th from 10 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. Pastor Jack Hall will officiate the service with burial at Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown. Donations in Kenny’s memory may be made to the Shawneetown First Baptist Church. Due to Covid-19, social distancing and masks will be required.
