Laverta Joyce (Chapman) Berlin

Laverta Joyce Berlin, 71, of Shawneetown, Illinois, died on Monday, July 20, 2020 at Linda White Hospice in Evansville, Indiana.  She was born in Shawneetown on August 3, 1948 the daughter of the late Paul Wilbert Chapman and Dorothy Laverne (Oldham) Smith.  Laverta married the love of her life, George Albert Berlin on September 20, 1964.  George passed away on December 13, 2017.  She was owner and operator of Dot’s Corner in Shawneetown.  Laverta is survived by her sons, George Berlin Jr. of Shawneetown and Ronnie Berlin of Burlington, Kentucky; two brothers, Billy and Sherry Rigsby Sr. of Old Shawneetown, James and Catherine Rigsby of Shawneetown; two sisters, Sheila and Patrick Underwood of Worthville, Kentucky and Dolores Rigsby of Shawneetown.  Visitation for Laverta will be held on Thursday, July 23rd from 11 a.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown.  The Reverend Thad Galloway will officiate the service.  Burial will be at Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church.  Due to Covid-19, masks and social distancing will be required.
