Lyndal Ray Sork, 80, of Ridgway, Illinois passed away Saturday, August 10th, 2024 at the VA Community Living Center in Marion. Lyndal was born in Ridgway on August 28th, 1943, to the late Roy Francis Sork and Bernice (Buchanan) Kimbro. He was an outstanding father, brother, and son. On December 11, 1967, he would marry the love of his life, Ellen Louise Cox. Lyndal served in the United States Army as a communications instructor from April 1965 to April 1967 at Fort Gordon, Georgia. He would later be employed for approximately 20 years at Jones Farm & Home Store in Ridgway, where he was well-known as a superb gun salesman. Lyndal considered the greatest event of his life to be when he gave his heart to the Lord in January 1971. He would later receive the call to ministry and become a Church of God (Cleveland, TN) Ordained Bishop, where he would serve as senior pastor to numerous Churches of God throughout Gallatin County. He was a member of the Ridgway Souls Harbor Church of God. Lyndal enjoyed reading his bible, singing at his local church; especially when performing a duet with his spouse, testifying of his faith in God, serving as senior pastor, assisting ministers in their churches, evangelizing, and encouraging laity members in their walk of life. Lyndal was known for enjoying his movies (especially westerns), being an old Yankees fan, watching baseball and basketball, and spending time with his family and cats and dogs to whom he called his “babies”. He would strive to help his family in any way possible. He also had the nickname “Einstein”, where he was well known to be an intelligent person, especially with movie history. Lyndal would graduate Ridgway High School with honors in 1961 and later enter Southeastern Illinois College in 1994, where he would achieve an associate’s degree in nursing with presidential honors in 1997. He would later finish his nursing career at the HealthSouth Tristate & Rehab Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, in the Brain Injury Unit. Surviving are his two sons, Jason Wayne Sork and Gregory Wade Sork, both of Ridgway, a grandson, Levi Sork, of Murphysboro, and several nieces and nephews.
