Margaret Elizabeth Hobbs, 99, of Troy, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at the Highland Health Care in Highland. Margaret lived most of her life in Dixon and then returned to Shawneetown to help her mother before moving to Troy. She was born at Saline Mines, Illinois on November 3, 1924, the daughter of Albert David and Mae (Rowland) Richeson. After graduation from Cave-in-Rock High School in 1942 she left the area and began working at several jobs including as a telephone operator, at the Reynolds Wire Mill in Dixon and at Walter C. Knack Wholesalers also in Dixon. She eventually retired from the State of Illinois in the Mental Health Care Centers in Dixon and Rockford. In May of 1944 she married J.D. Angleton who preceded her death in 1999. On August 7, 1964 she married George W. Hobbs and he passed away on November 24, 1970. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Karen Stephens of Troy; two nieces, Martha “Marti” and David Cox of Shawneetown, Margaret Ann Patton of Shawneetown; one nephew, Donald Eugene Richeson; two grandchildren, Tod and Samantha Stephens of St. Louis, Missouri, Molly and David Warner of Troy; four great grandsons, Layne Sparks, Asher Warner, Troy and Bradley Stephens; several great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; three brothers, Eugene, Bernard “Bubby” and D.A. Richeson. There will be a graveside service on Saturday, June 15th at 11 a.m. at the Hogan Cemetery near Shawneetown. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery. Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown in charge of arrangements.
