Ray Varner, 58, of 613 E. Main St. Ridgway, IL, passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, at 9:10 p.m. at Deaconness Hospital in Evansville, IN. Ray was born on August 1, 1948 in Eldorado, IL to Charles and Ruby (Walters) Varner who preceded him in death. He married Jane Downen on October 7, 1967. Ray was employed as a salesman for Great American Opportunities. He is survived by his wife, Jane; children, Rachel Shelton of Tampa, FL, Jason and Amanda Varner of Marion, IL and Jeremy and Jessica Varner of Benton, IL; grandchildren, Jackson and Isabella Shelton, and Ellington Varner; brother, Chuck and Judith Varner of Norris City, IL. Ray was a loving, Christian man. He was a deacon in his church and a mentor to many people. He was the best husband and father anyone could ask for. He was also like a father figure to many young men and women while he coached little league basketball and baseball for many years. Every person that knew him was better for knowing him. He will be loved and missed always. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006 at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Ridgway, IL. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006 at New Hope G.B. Church north of Ridgway, IL. Burial will be at the Palestine Two Cemetery in Omaha, IL and Rev.
