Mark Patrick Scates

March 16, 1971 — February 19, 2014

Mark Patrick (Markie) Scates aged 42 of Shawneetown, died February 19, 2014. Born March 16, 1971 in Evansville, Ind.,  he was a 1989 graduate of Gallatin County High School. After graduation he became a partner in the family farm, Pat Scates & Sons. Markie is survived by his parents Mark and Nancy (Cazel) Scates, brother John Scates, wife Kassy and children Colt and Fallon, brother Mike Scates, wife Trisha and children Chandler and Avery, sister Elizabeth Kanipe, husband Wade and children Madeleine, Marilla and Abram.  His happiest times were spent with his family and friends. Markie especially cherished time with his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed cooking, farming and loved to travel. He was a gracious host and loved to entertain. Always generous, he would often bring samples of his newest recipe to share with family and friends. Stories from trips to the Florida Keys and exploring Europe were always favorites at gatherings.  Visitation will be at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown on Friday, February 21, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday February 22, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shawneetown with Father Steven Beatty officiating. Burial will take place at Westwood Cemetery in Shawneetown. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pat Scates Jr. Scholarship Fund or the Shawneetown Fire Department.  Internet condolences may be made at the website, www.vickeryfuneralchapel.com.
