Max Apple, 89, of Harrisburg, Illinois (formerly of Enfield &
Equality, Illinois) passed away April 22, 2014 at Carrier Mills Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Max was born in Enfield, Illinois to Leonard and Flora (Espy) Apple on May 13, 1924. He married the love of his life, Wanda Ruth Biggerstaff in Enfield on October 7, 1944.
Max loved and served the Lord Jesus Christ all of his life. Max was a member of Equality United Methodist Church and a former member of Enfield United Methodist Church. He was Past Master of the Masonic Lodge and a member of Gideon's International. In 1959, Max co-founded M & S Implement Company, where he was an active manager for over 40 years and an owner for 54 years.
Max is survived by his wife Wanda of Harrisburg, Illinois; two sons Don (Karen) Apple of Newburgh, Indiana and Roger (Donna) Apple of Harrisburg, Illinois; four grandchildren Melanie Mayo of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Scott (Misty) Apple of Ball Ground, Georgia, Aaron (Nicole) Apple of Marion, Illinois, and Austin (Lyndsi) Apple of Harrisburg; five great-granddaughters Taylor Mayo, Halee Barnes, Madison Apple, Lilly Apple, and Emmery Apple; and one great-grandson (due to arrive on May 5th) Harrison Max Apple. Also surviving are two sisters Aleta Ritchey of Evansville, Indiana and Elizabeth Barbre of Carmi, Illinois.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Carleton Apple; two sisters Lola Aker and Jean York; six brother-in-laws Wesley Aker, Doyle York, P. K. Barbre, P. D. Ritchey, Clifford Edwards, and Willard Eckroth; and three sister-in-laws Amy Apple, Lavern Eckroth, and LaVere Edwards.
Visitation for Max will be 5 to 8 pm, Friday, April 25, 2014 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg, Illinois. Funeral directors Mike and Diana Vickery are in charge of arrangements. Funeral services will be 10 am at the Reed Funeral Chapel on Saturday, with Rev. Ron Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Enfield Cemetery in Enfield, Illinois.
