Michael L. Kitchens, 70, of Ridgway, Illinois, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. He was born on January 2, 1950 in Eldorado, the son of the late Johnnie T. and Rachel M. (Houston) Kitchens. Mike married Rebecca A. Smith on September 27, 1972. He was a U.S. Marine veteran and retired after twenty-eight years as Ridgway Chief of Police and worked at the Gallatin County Sheriff’s office for a year and a half. Also he was a member of the Eldorado Church of God and Ridgway VFW Post #5508. He is survived by his loving family; his wife, Rebecca Kitchens of Ridgway; one son, John and Nancy Kitchens of Ridgway; two daughters, April M. Kitchens and Angel D. Kitchens both of Ridgway; two sisters, Louise Carruba of Ridgway, Rebecca Sue Massett of Ridgway; one brother, Randy B. and Kelly Rogers of Fisk, Missouri; four grandchildren, Ryan, Adrian, Molly and Maddy Kitchens; one great granddaughter, Delilah Kitchens; several nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie T. Kitchens and Rachel M. Houston Dailey. Private burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery near Equality with a memorial service to be held at a later date. Vickery Funeral Chapel in Ridgway in charge of arrangements.
