Michael “Mike” Moore, 76, of Newburgh, IN, passed away suddenly in their Arizona home on February 14, 2023. He was born in Equality, IL, to Doris and Russel Moore on September 9, 1946. He spent the first three years of his high school career at St. Henry’s Seminary in Bellville, IL and graduated from Equality High School. He received his undergraduate chemistry degree from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. He taught chemistry, physics, and biology at Equality High School. Later, he obtained another undergraduate degree in engineering from the University of Evansville. He retired as an electrical engineer at ALCOA in Newburgh, IN. He enjoyed using his engineering skills to solve problems and enrich his life and of those he knew. He also enjoyed woodworking, reading, and the Hallmark movie channel. He made everyone feel special through the use of “book texts” about the weather, his morning coffee, and detailed reports of his beloved wife’s, MaryAnn’s, activities. He enjoyed traveling the country with his wife, residing in Benzonia, MI, Apache Junction, AZ, and Newburgh, IN. When not traveling, he not only liked to work on woodworking projects, but also tended to his vegetable garden. He was a very loving and generous man who had many friends wherever he resided. He will be sadly missed by all. He was happily married and is survived by his wife, MaryAnn, for 51 years and knew their relationship was one that was “made in heaven”. He is survived by two children, Byron (Aimee) Moore of Granger, IN and Kate (Kevin) Smola of Greenwood, IN; grandchildren: Brendan and Leah Moore and Asher and Gabriel Smola; one brother: Gregory Moore; one sister: Janet Johnson, as well as beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Joann Cameron. A visitation will be held at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality, IL on Thursday, February 23rd from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Kateri Tekakwitha in Ridgway on Friday, February 24th at 11 a.m. Father Vincent Mukasa will be officiating with burial at St. Joseph Cemetery near Equality. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Joseph’s Cemetery Fund in Equality.
