Mildred Harrington

Mildred Collier Harrington, 88, of Marion, Ill. formerly of Ridgway, Ill., passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009, 8:50 a.m., at Herrin Hospital in Herrin. She was born June 14, 1920 in Golconda to Edward and Cora (McClusky) Shelby. Mildred was employed at the Chicago Rawhide Company of Elgin and Ridgway Golden Circle as a cook for many years and was a resident of Parkway Manor in Marion for seven years. She first married Howard A. Collier on April 3, 1939 and he preceded her in death on July 18, 1984. On June 14, 1990 she married Leland Harrington and he passed away on July 12, 2004. Mildred is survived by four daughters, Judy Belford of Ridgway, Joyce and Thomas Carter of Golconda, Sharon and Floyd Thompson of Perryville, Mo., Carol Sue and Rev. Bernie Cowgill of Eldorado and one son, Don and Connie Collier of Raleigh; eleven grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents; husbands; and two brothers, Melvin and Hallie Shelby. Visitation for Mildred will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Ridgway. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Robert Patton and Rev. Bernie Cowgill officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Jackson Cemetery near Ridgway. Memorial donations may be made to Jackson Cemetery or Ridgway Golden Circle.
