Millard Smith Jr.

Millard Smith Jr. "Junior", of Shawneetown, Ill., went to be with his heavenly father on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. Junior was born January 15, 1934 to Millard and Alma P. (Thompson)Smith in Bowlesville Township in Gallatin County, Illinois. He married the love of his life, Betty "Sissy" Brazier on January 6, 1962. Junior, as most people knew him was a machinist by trade and worked at Ajax Engineering for twenty-five years and also a trucker at heart. He was a member of the Harrisburg First Baptist Church. Junior was the father of Randy (Debbie) Smith of Broughton, Rodney (Marta) Smith of Marion, Ryan (Kellie) Smith of Shawneetown. He was the grandfather of thirteen grandchildren; Miranda (Antonio) Hernandez, Branden (Wendy) Smith, Matthew Smith, Allison Smith, Savannah Smith, Chelsea Smith, Angie (Billy) Peyton, Andy (Jennifer) Sweat and his five little cowgirls that always brought a smile to his face; Raegan, Madison, Peyton, Mckellyn and Emersyn Smith. He is also survived by five great grandchildren and his sister, Betty Davis of DuQuion. He was preceded in death by parents and one son, Rick Smith. He was a good husband, father, papa, and poppy. He will be missed. Graveside services will be held at Hogan Cemetery at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 21st with Rev. David Howard and Rev. Dwight Jackson officiating. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery. Donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Harrisburg or the Vanderbilt Burn Center.
