Myrtle F. Murphy, 88, of Ridgway, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana. She was born in the river bottoms of New Haven on December 15, 1931 to the late Thad and Mary Mae (Fields) Golden. Myrtle married the love of her life, George William Murphy on May 18, 1949. George preceded her in death on November 21, 2007. Myrtle and George farmed until they retired. Myrtle was a faithful member of the St. Kateri Catholic Church, the Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella, Golden Circle, and Farm Bureau. She helped serve and cook a many a meal at the church. Also she loved her flower and vegetable garden and to embroidery quilts. Myrtle loved the Lord, her family and friends. She is survived by her loving family, her daughter, Connie and Mike Gross of Ridgway; one sister, Altia Mae and Chuck Wilcox of Evansville, Indiana; two brothers, Frank and Faye Golden of Equality, Robert and Linda Golden of Oakland City, Indiana; four grandsons, Mike and Kim Gross Jr. of Ridgway, Jason and April Gross of Ridgway, Greg and Terra Gross of Ridgway, Brandon and Samantha Gross of Shawneetown; twelve great grandchildren, Justin and Bree Gross, Kelci and Brady Webb, Konner Gross, Joshua Gross, Jaden and Kimber Gross, Jacob and Ashley Gross, Jared and Odalys Gross, Jaxson Gross, Seth Gross, Hannah and Braxton Overfield, Laclare Gross, and Kailee Gross; fourteen great great grandchildren, Charlotte, Ne`Monoun “Nemo”, Kinsley, Eliza, Gabriel, Liam, Declan, Bianca, Kyah, Abbi, Jase, Zella, Sadie, and Mason; and her faithful companion, Daisy. Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, John R. Murphy; two brothers, Charles and Bill Golden; one great grand daughter, Charli Jean Gross. Visitation for Myrtle will be held on Saturday, February 22nd from 4 to 8 p.m. with rosary at 7 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Ridgway. Funeral Mass will be on Sunday, February 23rd at 2 p.m. at the St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway with Father Steven Beatty and Father Christian Iwuagwu as Celebrants. Burial will follow at the St. Patrick Cemetery at Pond Settlement. Donations in Myrtle memory may be made to St. Kateri Altar Society, Ridgway Golden Circle, and Shriner's Hospital.
