Otis Oxford

Otis Oxford, 70, of 11840 Pool Rd., Equality, Ill., passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, 7 :12 a.m. at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, Ill. Otis was born January 25, 1939 in Shawneetown to Lowell and Lydia B. (Smith) Oxford. He married Janet Engles on July 2, 1960. Otis was a farmer and a member of Equality Social Brethren Church. He is survived by his wife, Janet Oxford of Harrisburg; daughter, Georgia and Daren Roach of Johnston City; son, Michael and Sara Oxford of Equality; his mother, Lydia Oxford of Shawneetown; a daughter in law, Chronda Oxford of Equality; four sisters, Shirley and Ted Wood of Junction; Linda and Dean Jerrels of Elizabethtown, Connie and Rick Casey of Marion, Joan and Dennis Kaegi of Cave- in- Rock; sister in law, Ritha and Roger Yates of Carterville; five grandchildren, Dylan and Erin Roach, Lynzie Summers, Tyler Oxford, and Brooklynde Oxford. Otis was preceded in death by his father, Lowell Oxford; son, L.A. Oxford; brother in laws, Bill Matthews and Larry Osman; and sister in law, Margaret Matthews. Visitation for Otis will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery near Equality.
