Paul Rupert Unfried

Paul R. "Rupert" Unfried, 83, 11860 Pool Road, Equality; passed away, Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at 4:30 a.m. at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital in La Grange, Ill. He was born to A.C. "Gus" and Eva (Mossman) Unfried in Equality on November 3, 1924. Rupert was a graduate of Equality High School, class of 1942. He was a Army Veteran of World War Two and in 1944 was seriously wounded in Germany and received a Purple Heart, Silver Star and several other awards for valor. Rupert was employed as a construction engineer and equipment operator in the Chicago area from 1955 until his retirement in 1990. Since his retirement he has resided at the Unfried family farm north of Equality. Rupert was a talented and industrious person with a keen sense of humor as well as an accomplished gardener and also know for his beautiful roses. He was devoted to his family, friends, church and country. He will be deeply missed by all. Rupert was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Equality, Equality McLain-Glover American Legion Post 595, and a life member of the Midwest Operating Engineers. He was an active member of the Equality Township Board of Trustees for the past several years. Rupert is survived by sister, Bernadette Mele of Westchester; and thirteen nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents; sisters, Lillian M. Jennings and Evelyn Gregor. Visitation for Rupert will be Sunday, February 24th from 4 to 8 p.m. at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality with prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Monday, February 25th from 7 to 9:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Equality. Father Mark Stec will be officiating. Burial will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery near Equality with military rites by American Legion Post 595.
