Paul David Wood Sr.

Shawneetown, Illinois

Paul David Wood Sr., 92, of Shawneetown, Illinois passed away in Winter Haven, Florida on Thursday, December 21st , 2023.   The son of the late Thomas Edison “Buck” and Madge (Prather) Wood, he was born in Equality on October 19th , 1931.  Paul David was a proud Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was lifetime member of the Ridgway VFW.  He was a parishioner of the St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway.  Also he was a retired inspector for the Illinois Department of Agriculture.  Paul David loved to go to Florida for the winter, fishing and gardening.  Above all he loved to be Grandpa to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Paul David is survived by his son, Stephen K. and Brenda Wood of Shawneetown; his sister, Shirley Vespa of Springfield; his brother, Ted and Shirley Wood of Junction; five grandchildren, Renee and Joe Hutton of Mulberry, Indiana, Ashley and Brent Ferguson of Mulberry, Indiana, Stevi and Matt Schaning of Cambridge, Wisconsin, Kirk Wood of Frankfort, Indiana and Brandon Wood; and eleven great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Paul David Wood Jr. and his brother, Jerry Wood.  Visitation for Paul David will be held on Thursday, January 4th from 10 a.m. until memorial service time at 1 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown.  Father Vincent Mukasa will officiate the service with interment at Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown.  There will be military rites for Paul David conducted by the Gallatin County Honors Team and the Army Honors Guard.  Donations in memory of Paul David may be made to the Shawneetown Public Library.
