Roger Dale Darnell

Roger Dale Darnell Sr., age 71, peacefully passed away in Portage, Indiana on Sunday, September 1st, 2024. He was born on February 14th, 1953 in Gary, Indiana to Chester (Checker) & Velma (Sis) Darnell. He is survived by his wife Sandra K Darnell and son Roger D Darnell Jr. of Portage Indiana. His loving daughter Rhonda K. Mason and son-in-law Jon M. Mason of Valparaiso, Indiana, along with his two grandsons Logan and Lincoln Mason who were his pride and joy. His brother Michael Darnell and wife Tina of Rensselaer, Indiana and his brother Randy Darnell and wife Sharon of Chesterton, Indiana.  He was preceded in death by his son Robbie William Darnell and his mother and father lovingly known as Sis and Checker Darnell.  Many who knew Roger would agree that he was a wonderful man, an amazing father, a loving and devoted Pawpaw, and a loyal and caring friend. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by many.  Funeral services will be held at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown on Saturday, September 21st. Visitation for Roger will be from 1 p.m. until Masonic Service time at 1:45 p.m. with  and the funeral service to begin at 2 p.m. at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown.  The Reverend James R. Hubbard will officiate the service. Interment will follow at the Hogan Cemetery with Military Honors by the Gallatin County Honors Team.  A Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion in Portage, Indiana on Saturday, September 28th from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a remembrance service starting at 4 p.m.
