Rosetta Colbert, 92, passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside on Friday, December 31, 2010 at 9:11 p.m. in Eldorado, Illinois. Rosetta was born September 27, 1918, the daughter of John and Millie Pyles Martin, both deceased. She married Ralph Colbert, former Gallatin County Clerk, who preceded her in death in 1991. They were married March 25, 1938, and together they built a loving happy life for their extended family which included all who knew and loved them. Rosetta was a loving wife, mother, and friend to all who came to know her, and she was much loved in return. To know her was to love her. The children of Rosetta and Ralph included a son, Martin Ralph "Bud" Colbert, who preceded her in death in 2007, and a daughter, Teresa Rose, who was stillborn in 1951. Children surviving Rosetta are another son, Ronald D. (Nancy) Colbert, of Equality, Ill., and two daughters, Brenda Sue Wood of Naples, Fla., and Sandra Lee (James) Frohock of Schererville, Ind. Rosetta cherished nine grandchildren: Rodney (Yvonne) Frohock, Russell (Pam) Frohock, Debra (Chris) Himsel, Martin (Lori) Colbert, Lynne` Colbert, Cary Wood, Kyle (Dawn) Wood, Amy Roselle (Jay) Dowell, and Mindi (Jared) Abney. She was also blessed with eighteen great grandchildren: Jacquelyn (Greg) Born; Joshua Frohock, Franklin, and Johnathan Frohock, Emily Rose Frohock, Samantha Rose and Ryan Colbert and step great grandchildren Jeff and Nick Nowell; Mary Elizabeth Wood; Jake, Mason, and Hayden Dowell, Griffin and Finley Wood and Aubrey Rose (deceased); Andrew Himsel and Cole Abney. In addition are two great great grandchildren: James and Sylas Born survive. Rosetta was the middle child of eleven, and those siblings surviving are sisters Mary (Vaughn) Barker of Hammond, Ind., Della (Cecil deceased) Eickelman of Christopher, Ill., and Treva (Jim) Chisler of Punta Gorda, Fla., along with two brothers, John Martin of Sullivan, Mo., and William Floyd (Mary) Martin of Marion, Ill. She also is survived by a daughter-in-law, Ruth Colbert of St. John, Ind. Preceding Rosetta in death are also siblings Frank Martin, Annabelle Carnahan, Lawrence Martin, Phoebe Davis, and A. B. "Pepper" Martin. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a lifetime of friends and neighbors who will keep her in loving memory. Rosetta was born in Gallatin Co., Ill. and lived most of her life in the Eagle Creek area. She spent a happy childhood on the family farm near High Knob. She was a member of the Equality Social Brethren Church, and was active until recent years in the Leamington Ladies Aide, The American Legion Auxiliary, Gallatin County Home Bureau, and the Eastern Star. She was also active politically, a real helpmate to her husband Ralph for she dearly loved socializing and people in general. Most dear to her were her family and her home. She welcomed everyone she knew to her home and her bountiful meals for she loved cooking, baking, homemaking, and gardening. She also loved to travel and was an avid crafter and painter. She was loved and treasured in return by all who knew her so she leaves at her passing this life many who mourn her passing. Funeral services will be held at the Equality Social Brethren Church at 11 a.m., on Saturday, January 8, 2011 but visitation will precede that at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality on Friday, January 7, 2011, from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will follow at the Colbert Cemetery in Mountain Township, Saline Co., Ill. A luncheon will follow at her church in Equality. Memorial contributions may be made to the Equality Social Brethren Church, and envelopes will be available at the visitation.
