Anthony Ray “Tony” Wargel, 63, of Equality, Illinois, passed away at the Linda White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana on Friday, September 17th 2021 at 3:22 a.m. He was born in Evansville, Indiana on July 12th 1958, the son of the late Cletus C. And Bette J. (Moore) Wargel. He was a devoted father to Anthony Garrett (Michelle) Wargel and Emily Renae (Japheth) Rush and devoted grandfather to Lainey L. Rush. He graduated from Equality High School Class of 1976 and immediately started working at Frontier-Kemper Constructors, Inc. in Evansville until he retired after forty-three years with the position of Heavy Equipment Operator Leadman (also known as #1 Yard Dawg). Tony enjoyed being with family and friends while watching NFL games, hunting, playing poker, gardening, “tinkering” in the shed, and enjoyed watching horse racing at Ellis Park. He is also survived by four sisters and one brother, Cyndy (Nick) DeVous of Equality, Susan (Donnie) Bryant of Carmi, Pam (Stacy) Wenzel of Junction, Beth Wargel of Equality, Tim Wargel of Evansville, Indiana. Tony was uncle to thirteen nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife Rita Delaine “Laine” (Cox) Wargel, oldest brother C. Douglas Wargel, niece Ivy DeVous and nephew Zane Wargel. Visitation for Tony will be held on Tuesday, September 21st from 5 p.m. until funeral service time at 7 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality. Pastor Scott Luckett will be officiating the service. As per Tony’s wishes he will be cremated and will be interred at the St. Joseph Cemetery near Equality at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family.
