Virginia Eswine, 90, of Shawneetown, Ill., passed away on Friday, January 27, 2017, at the Heartland Regional Medic Center in Marion. She was born on July 14, 1926 in Shawneetown, the daughter of Louis Joseph and Maggie (Hayes) Eswine. Virginia was a 1947 graduate of 1947 Cadet Nurse Program at St. Louis City Hospital for Nursing and retired as a registered nurse in 1980. Also she was a faithful member of St. Kateri Catholic Church -St. Mary’s Chapel in Shawneetown. Virginia is survived by sister, Marguerite Massey of Victorville. Cal.; two nieces, Sandra K. Parker of Bloomington, Tina Ross of Palm Springs, Cal.; two nephews, Larry Massey of Apple Valley, Cal., William Massey of Florida; one brother-in-law, Jesse W. Parker of Bloomington. She was preceded in death by her three sisters, Dorothy Parker and Delores Eswine; and one nephew, Henry Joe Massey. Donations in Virginia’s memory may be made to the Shawneetown Public Library. Visitation for Virginia will be on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 10 a.m. to Funeral Mass time at 11 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Chapel in Shawneetown with Father Steven Beatty officiating. Internment will be at the Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown.
