William L. Scates

William L. "Bill" Scates, 88, of 8700 Hwy 13, Shawneetown; passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 5:05 a.m., at Harrisburg Medical Center in Harrisburg. He was born August 19, 1919 in Shawneetown to Arthur and Lula (Coleman) Scates. Bill married Juanita Marie Holt on October 12, 1940 and she preceded him in death on May 18, 2006. He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Bill is survived by five daughters, Judy Scates of NewYork, NY., Kay and Bob Charleton of Shawneetown, Sue and Bud Kimbro of Ridgway, Helen and Ron Rushing of Shawneetown, Debbie and David Fleischer of New York, NY; three sons, Bill and Karon Scates of Shawneetown, Bob and Vicki Scates of Eldorado, Tony and Marzel Scates of Shawneetown; a sister, Margaret McGuire of Fort Branch, Ind.; 25 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by parents; wife; an infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth Scates; a son, Larry Scates; two brothers, Ben and Patrick Sr. Scates. Visitation for Bill will be Sunday, March 16th, 4 to 8 p.m. with prayer service at 4 p.m. at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. Funeral Mass services will be held on Monday, March 17th, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shawneetown. Father Mark Stec will be officiating the service with burial at Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Memorial may be made to the Immaculate Conception Cemetery Fund.
