Wilma L. Vickery, 91, of Shawneetown, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home a day before her 92nd birthday on Tuesday, September 1, 2020. She was born on September 2, 1928 in Rocky Branch. Wilma was the daughter of the late William and Pearl (Prather) Ambrose. On July 6, 1947 she married Robert Leo Vickery and he preceded her in death on November 9, 1967. Wilma graduated from Shawneetown High School in 1947. For many years Wilma worked as a Pharmacy Tech at Herrmann Drugs, and also a warehouse clerk for Peabody Coal and secretary for Egyptian Health. Wilma thru the years was an EMT, was a Cancer Society volunteer for thirty-six years, and the Gold Hill Township Clerk for twenty-eight years. She was a Baptist by faith. Wilma is survived by her son, Robert Dean and Shari Vickery of Shawneetown; three granddaughters, Devon and Joe Marsh of Woodbridge, Virginia; Christy and Mitchell Conkle of Elizabethtown; Tammy Debout and Tony Duck of Gallatin, Tennessee; three great grandchildren, Bradley, Boston, and Nathan. She also leaves behind a host of neighbors and friends who enjoyed visiting with her on her front porch in warm weather. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her son, Thomas Jerrell Vickery. Visitation for Wilma will be on Friday, September 4th from 9 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. Reverend James R. Hubbard will officiate with burial at Westwood Cemetery. Donations in Wilma’s memory may be made to the Westwood Cemetery. Due to the Covid -19 social distancing and masks will be required.
