Zella D. Medlin, 90, of New Haven, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at the Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. She was born in Carmi on February 23, 1933, the daughter of the late Clarence and Ruby (Russell) Desper. Zella married Billy L. “Bill” Medlin on November 15, 1952. Sadly Bill preceded Zella in death on August 23, 2008. Zella lead a busy life as a faithful member of the New Haven Presbyterian Church, American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. Also she worked as an election judge for many years and at the Anna Bixby Women’s Center. She had a Memorial Day Fish Fry for forty-seven years and loved to to vacation in Cancun. Zella leaves behind her son, Butch and Debbie Medlin of Evansville, Indiana; her daughter, Cathie Medlin and Judi Pastori of Herrin; one sister, Marlyn and Bob Woodruff of Claremore, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Ashlee McCure, Chay Naas and fiancé, Casey Barnett; great grandchildren, Hayes McCure, Presley Naas, and Olivia Barnett; several nieces and nephews. Also she is survived by her special and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Russell Medlin; her daughter, Connie Medlin Naas; two brothers, Gene and Guy Desper. Visitation for Zella will be held on Tuesday, January 23rd from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 11:30 a.m. at the New Haven Presbyterian Church. Reverend Wade Halva will officiate the service with burial at Union Ridge Cemetery near New Haven. In lieu of flowers donations in Zella’s memory may be made to American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. Vickery Funeral Chapel in Ridgway will be charge of the services.
